Flag Day; No Kings

Today, June 14th, is Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

There are also various “No Kings” protests planned across the country.

Notably, the United States Constitution provides, simply and tersely:

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

Section 9, Clause 8. Titles of Nobility; Presents and Emoluments From Foreign States to Officers of United States, USCA CONST Art. I ยง 9, cl. 8.

In this way, our fledgling country distinguished itself from other regimes, e.g. England, in which such titles are routinely granted and recognized.
