$140,000 Jury Verdict in Marchuk v. Faruqi & Faruqi Sexual Harassment Case

This week, a jury reached a verdict in plaintiff Alexandra Marchuk’s sexual harassment/hostile work environment lawsuit against law firm Faruqi & Faruqi LLP, partner Juan Monteverde, and others.

According to the Judgment in the case filed on 2/9/15, the jury awarded the following to plaintiff:

  • $90,000 in compensatory damages as against defendants Juan Monteverde and Faruqi & Faruqi, LLP,
  • $5,000 in punitive damages as against defendant Faruqi & Faruqi LLP, and
  • $45,000 in punitive damages as against defendant Juan Monteverde.

To summarize, in this case – which has been covered extensively by Above The Law – plaintiff, a young law firm associate, alleged in her complaint that she was sexually harassed by partner Monteverde. Among the numerous salacious details to emerge during the case, plaintiff alleged that she and Monteverde had sex – resulting in a bloody, and later discarded, carpet – in the firm’s offices following its holiday party in 2011.
