Last week employee Michael Spiegel filed suit against the Hotel Edison, alleging violations of New York’s general whistleblower statute (New York Labor Law § 740) and age discrimination under the NY State and City Human Rights Laws.
Spiegel alleges that he was treated unfairly and then fired after complaining about dangerous open windows without window guards, unclear exit passageways, and the failure to secure permits for certain construction projects (alleged violations of, respectively, NYC Building Code §§ 27-2043.1, 27-370, and 28-105.1).
Plaintiff also alleged that he was discriminated against – in the form of taunts and jokes – because of his age (65) and appearance.
